Business grants were created
to provide financial assistance to entrepreneurs and business
owners, much like scholarships provide aid to students attending
college. Originally, the grants were designed to assist disadvantaged
ones such as minorities, women, and even those who were in the
low-income bracket.
Over time,
business grants were extended to practically anyone who qualified
for the criteria outlined. Business plan competitions and essay-writing
contests were born, and the best candidate was awarded the grant.
Typically though, there is a detailed application process that
sometimes involves the personal circumstances of the applicant.
For instance, sometimes a person may only qualify if he lives
in a certain area, has been in business for a certain amount of
years, has studied business in college, etc.
Nowadays,
there are so many business grant opportunities with so many different
ways to apply - it's hard to keep up. The vastness of options,
though, is nothing to complain about - especially because of the
status of the American economy that prevents and discourages banks
from giving out small business loans.
Banks and
financial institutions, who were traditionally designed to assist
needy individuals, are helping less and less. However, business
grant funding is alive and well. Entrepreneurs should be fully
aware on how to take advantage of this.
